The town of Castel San Pietro Terme lies on the border between Emilia and Romagna, about 23 kilometres from Bologna. The area is surrounded by hills and gullies, bordered by the Sillaro river and ideal for holidays dedicated to relaxation and sustainability. Because of this, it has recently been awarded the title of “Slow City”.

The town has always been a destination for spa and sports tourism and offers the opportunity to go on sightseeing tours, taste typical products and enjoy pleasant excursions (by bike, e-bike or on foot). Part of the Gothic Line also passes through the area.

The heart of the historic centre is Piazza XX Settembre at the centre of which is the ionic column with the statue of the Madonna del Rosario. The square is overlooked by Palazzo del Municipio (Town hall), Palazzo dell’ex Pretura and the Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso. The Cassero (fortification) marked the official founding of Castel San Pietro in 1199. Today it is home to the municipal theatre.

Moving away from the historic centre you can find the Terme di Castel San Pietro (thermal baths) famous for the quality of their mud and sulphurous, ferruginous and salsobromoiodic mineral waters. This is a historic building and the therapeutic properties of its waters had already been discovered in the Middle Ages. The facility now offers therapeutic and relaxing stays for adults and children.

In the heart of the Sillaro Valley is the “Le Fonti” Golf Club, which hosts important national and international events. It is home to the Le Fonti Golf Academy and has large tourist, hotel and spa areas.

Another unique and impressive location in the town is the Garden of the Angels. This heart-shaped garden contains more than a hundred species of flowers and plants that have been arranged in temporal succession so that their flowering can be admired all year round. This garden is also accessible to people with disabilities.
