Surrounded by the silent magic of the Bologna Hills, Palazzo di Varignana looks out from the town that it’s named after. The heart of the resort is Palazzo Bentivoglio, a countryside castle with four traditional towers dating to 1705, which has been renovated while staying true to its historical charm. The main 18th-century building is surrounded by a contemporary village built of stone, ensuring architecture that is harmonious with the landscape. Thirty hectares of land with gardens, parks, fountains and breath-taking panoramas where guests can stay in the rooms of the resort or in five luxurious villas nestled in the peace and quiet of the hills of Varignana.
The resort is home to Varsana Spa, a unique place nestled in natural surroundings that is open all year, perfect to unwind and recharge your batteries no matter the season. It offers different treatments, from more traditional ones to private Hammam sessions (a way to care for the body in Arabic cultures) and Ofuro (to discover the Japanese approach to wellness). Moreover, the spa has two special cave-like settings, the Grotta dei Calanchi and the Cava d’Oro Bianco, in addition to pools with massage jets, saunas and a steam room, sensory showers and a sound-therapy pool.
Next to the large solarium is a semi-Olympic pool, two terraced pools, a salt-water pool with massage jets and a swimming pool suitable for children, which in winter months becomes part of the wellness route thanks to a retractable cover. In summer, guests can enjoy a drink at the pool bar.
The resort is a place for self-care, including physical well-being and outdoor activities. It has a modern gym with next-gen Technogym equipment; tennis, squash, basketball, and padel courts; and a golf area with a putting green, chipping green and driving range. Palazzo di Varignana has also designed different paths for expert and beginner joggers and cyclists, which can be downloaded through their app.
Immersed in the verdant park, AUREVO Pool Restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy simple, light meals. In summer, the panoramic terrace offers spectacular views of the hills. Moreover, for those who love traditional food from Emilia-Romagna, Palazzo di Varignana has Trattoria Le Marzoline, a tribute to the trattorias of yore and down-home cooking. New for 2022 is the recently-opened fine dining restaurant, Il Grifone, which completes the gastronomic options at the resort. Diners will be taken on a journey through time as they taste eclectic dishes that fuse the contrasts of the land and sea.
