San Giovanni in Persiceto: a guided walk through the Borgo Rotondo

Our tour begins by passing through the historic Porta Garibaldi, a gateway that leads us into the heart of Borgo Rotondo and on to Piazza del Popolo. Located here is the world’s largest open-space solar sundial, a work that combines scientific precision and design.

Walking beneath the borough’s porticoes, we retrace local history through its main buildings. We note the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall), the Bolognese School paintings housed inside the Collegiata di San Giovanni Battista, and the architecture of the Casa dell’Abate. The route then continues into Piazzetta Betlemme, characterised by the murals decorating its house façades. Finally, before concluding the tour, we stop at Palazzo SS. Salvatore, currently home to the municipal library, and the former San Francesco complex.

• The meeting point can be reached by train from Bologna Centrale in the direction of Verona/Poggio Rusco (9:23 train / 10:10 train) or by car/private transport (a large, free car park is available). Please check transport timetables on official websites to stay updated on any potential delays or cancellations.

• Pets are not allowed.

• The route is free of architectural barriers (fully accessible).

• A 50% discount is available for holders of a Disability Card and for one accompanying person. Bookings for tickets reserved for disabled visitors must be requested by emailing extrabo@bolognawelcome.it or by visiting the eXtraBO information point in Piazza del Nettuno.

Refunds and changes:

Cancellation with a full refund or changes to the booking are permitted up to 48 hours before the activity starts.
