Accessible routes: From Granarolo to the small lakes of Madonna di Castenaso

A fully accessible 25 km route from Granarolo to the ponds of Madonna di Castesano, suitable for everyone.
The starting point is a convenient car park in the centre of Granarolo. We begin pedalling out of the town on the cycle path around the built-up area, carefully cycling past a few crossroads along Via San Donato towards Via Prati in the direction of Marano di Castenaso. The road is narrow but very lightly travelled, allowing us to fully enjoy the rural landscape of the countryside around Bologna, while remaining vigilant for any passing vehicles. We then cross the hamlet of Marano, alternating stretches of protected cycle track with sections of main road, eventually continuing towards Castenaso.

We will ride through the main town, with its shops and restaurants, then on small village streets towards the river park of the Idice stream, with alternating views of the creek and some charming strips of trees and shrubs filled with the typical essences of river courses. The road surface becomes unpaved as it skirts some small lakes created by the environmental recovery of quarries of gravelly and sandy sediments and the Castenaso golf course. Further on, we get back onto small paved country roads to the lakes of Madonna di Castenaso, which also include a restaurant.

Our way back to Granarolo follows the same route as the outward journey.
